I, just like many of you, have very fond memories of the Bay Shore Roller Rink. I was there just about every Wed, Sat, and Sun from ’78 to ’81 (as best as my memory serves me correctly).
I remember the sights, sounds, smells, and the feelings of being there constantly. I met a lot of friends and picked up some girls there in my day. Who remembers Scotty??? He was probably there since they dug the foundation of the place.
I now live in Pennsylvania, and the Bay Shore Roller Rink is a part of my youth, as it is a part of yours. As someone once said in the past (and in one of these threads)- “All good things must come to an end”.
It’s true. We do not live in the 60’s, 70’s, or 80’s anymore. As much as we’d like to hold onto the past, it’s probably time to let it go and not be selfish. There was a roller rink close to where I live in PA that was built in the 1920’s, and when you speak to the “old timers” in the area, they are glad that the place was closed and not tainted by the “younger generation”. They define the younger generation as the 1940’s thru the late 1950’s. As you can see, it’s all relative according to your age.
Let’s face it- we’re all getting older, and there’s no way any of us would be able to relive our past experiences along with the new generation… it can’t happen.
I miss the days at the Bay Shore Roller Rink / America on Wheels (and also Studio 109 in Babylon… do you remember that place?)
Don’t try to hang on to the past too much. Enjoy your life, the memories that you have, and remember that yesterday will live with us forever, and today / tomorrow will be the fond memories of the current generation.
Much love and respect… Tommy_D
P.S.- I still remember Nina, Kitty, Peggy, and Karen : )
God bless you Scotty : )
