Hi,

I am med student doing clinical rotations at South Side Hospital. I need living accomodations for four weeks near the hospital within walking distance. I would appreciate if anyone lives near there or knows anyone that lives in the area and would be willing to rent a room out.
I am a quiet, non-smoking, non-drinking, no pets, respectable person(male). I just need quiet room and don't mind sharing bath/kitchen. Please email me at mzair@yahoo.com or give me a call 3476802593. Please ensure that the living area is within a mile radius of the hospital as I don't have a car and I don't want to walk more than a mile.

I need a place by Jan 19th. Please get in touch if you have anything. Thanks.

After reading the Long Island Business News, it seems that Sept 2008 they're tearing down the rink to build their new thing, so much for resurrecting the rink ...

Hi everyone,
After reading all those posts on the Bay Shore roller rink it really brought back memories, especially seeing some of the names of people I grew up with like Kevin, Scotty, Lisa. It would be a great thing for the rink to reopen and if investors is all that's needed, I'm sure that there are many people that would jump on board to make it roll again.

Progress i guess and yes the bayshore roller rink thats so sad to see it go down..Well I really do miss the good times i had growing up there. South shore mall looks a

I grew up in Bay Shore and graduated from the BSHS
in 1972. It was a great place to live. I have been living
in Florida and the last time I was back to "visit" was in the mid-eighties. My kids were young and I wanted to show them where I grew up. I made a special trip on the Fire Island Ferries and drove around town. So many memories. Good memories. I remember playing dodge ball out in the street and my mother saying to come in when the street lights come on, roller skating in the parking lots on Sundays when the "stores were closed", bike riding all over the neighborhood and not worrying. The
neighbors all knew each other and would sit on the front steps and talked. Yes, that was a great time of my life and I am proud to say that is where I am from.

I grew up in Bay Shore and graduated BSHS in 1979. I had a wonderful childhood. I live in California and tell my children and husband about my childhood all the time. I was home about 5 years ago and went to visit my parent's home. They are both deceased now. I was shocked to see that the house looked like we had just moved out....years later. My family and I went to NY for vacation this past August. I took my son and daughter to see the house I grew up in. I couldn't believe it. The house that was once the best looking on the block was now easily the worst. When I visited 5 years ago I spoke to the owners who bought it from my parents years ago. The only thing they changed was the bathroom. Now, I wouldn't even go near the door. My memories of Bay Shore are the perfect childhood. Kick the can, making snowmen, school orchestra, walking the South Shore Mall, Benjamin's Beach, to the Middle School, High School....playing at Brook Ave. all day during the summer and playing sports in high school....go Marauders. I'm sorry to see all the negative comments about Bay Shore and what it seems to have become. I hope Bay Shore is turned back around.

On Sept. 21, 1938, a hurricane struck parts of New York and New England, causing widespread damage and claiming more than 600 lives.

My father’s uncle was chief of police of Ocean Beach on Fire Island.

At the height of the hurricane he walked from Ocean Beach to Point O'Woods to rescue a 90 year old woman trapped in her beach house home. He carried her on his back along the shore back to Ocean Beach and to safety. He was lauded and recognized as “the Hero of the Hurricane of ‘38”. Ocean Beach held a gala gathering to award Clarence “Babe” Morriss an engraved gold watch and caricature drawn by a famous NYC newspaper cartoonist and signed by all those attending. One guest who did not attend but who sent a note of congratulations I still have was General George C. Marshall a friend and often visitor to Ocean Beach.

Just a small foot note in history that happened 69 years ago.
